Northwest Technical Center Philosophy and Goals

The philosophy of the Tech Center is to prepare each learner to successfully enter the workforce, or post- secondary education. (See Mission Statement) The goals of the Tech Center are that:

Learners will:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of diversity and will tolerate and accept one another as equals in their Tech Center experiences.
  2. Demonstrate a positive work ethic including: respect for self and others, honesty, an attitude for continuous learning and self improvement, dependability, flexibility and adaptability, a willingness to communicate effectively and cooperate with others.
  3. Exhibit social responsibility and civic consciousness by sharing their skills and talents with community members in need. This gives the community an opportunity to observe the standard of learning achieved at the Tech Center.
  4. Demonstrate excellence in their work products by developing marketable skills, and accepting responsibility to work toward achieving their highest potential. Learners will demonstrate their ability to plan and work toward personal goals and continuous improvement.
  5. Demonstrate their competence in both oral and written communication, in applied math skills, in problem solving and in the use of available technology
  6. Assemble a collection of accomplishments, projects, workplace evaluations and documentation of workplace readiness

The Tech Center will:

  1. Provide up-to-date instruction in content areas of job and career growth potential. Staff will assist learners in the assembly of a career development portfolio.
  2. Use teaching and assessment practices that include state standards. These practices will allow learners to achieve and demonstrate their highest potential.
  3. Provide learning opportunities through cooperation with local employers. They may provide training sites for work-based learning. The Tech Center will also provide the learners the opportunity to explore post-secondary education and/or training options.
  4. Have its staff model and teach applied academics, problem solving, and workplace readiness skills. The staff shall demonstrate their responsibilities as democratic citizens.
  5. Expand its marketing to elementary students, their parents and the community. This will provide learners the opportunity to explore what technical education can offer. This marketing allows youth to observe how business and the Tech Center work together to provide a future of advancement for employment.
  6. Develop articulation agreements with post-secondary programs.
